FUFA Introduces the BIG League

Kampala Super Mini League OfficialsThe FUFA long term Development Plan that was discussed under the guidance of FIFA in November 2008 at Mandela National Stadium included among others the introduction of a national league that feeds the Uganda Super League to replace the one week Super Mini Leagues that have been used before.

The intention was to create an acclimatizing competition for the clubs ascending to Uganda’s top most league where the administrative, structural, sporting, infrastructural and financial abilities will be rehearsed. It was further envisaged that one of the key FIFA principles of good competitions is where competing teams are of almost an equal strength. Throwing a team that has just been a first division team playing in a district league of a radius of 20km to a national league composed of clubs that have existed for over 30 years and some with institutional budgets of hundreds of millions does not set the competing ground fair

The FUFA Competitions Committee (FCC) came up with the BIG LEAGUE as a national league just below the Uganda Super League. The teams that qualified to play in the newly introduced competitions were determined by the 2008/9 Lower League Rules (Rule B2 and B3) as the five (5) teams dropped from 2008/9 Uganda Super League and the clubs that finished second and third in the five regional super mini leagues in Uganda

The clubs that qualified are;
