The National Insurance Corporation Limited (NIC), Official Insurer of the Uganda national football team, unveiled an increased Insurance sponsorship package for the Uganda Cranes.

The package, which was unveiled at the NIC headquarters in Kampala, covers all players, coaching staff and team doctor against death and injuries resulting into permanent disability sustained while on official engagements. It also covers incidences during training as well as travels to and from matches and burial arrangements in case death occurs, the policy is worth Six hundred and Sixty million Ugandan shillings (UGX 660) annually, up from Five hundred and seventy million Ugandan Shillings(UGX 570M).

Managing Director of NIC Mr. Bayo Folayan said: “This package is in line with NIC’s community development program through sports and the players can put their best foot forward during matches because they will play with minimal worries while on national duty.”

He enjoined the team to reciprocate NIC’s gesture by putting up good performances in all their matches, to the glory of their Fatherland.

“Our vision in supporting the Cranes is to create an enabling environment for our footballers so that they too can compete on a global platform and rank among the best in the world,” Mr Folayan said.

NIC first Insured the Uganda Cranes in 2008 and continues to do so to uplift the standard of sports in Uganda as part of the company’s community development program.

Other areas of sports in which NIC is actively involved include netball as a way of empowering the girl-child. And for over 15 years now, NIC’s Netball team has triumphed in all major tournaments, including the East and Central African Netball Club championship, in the African region.
