Upon receipt of information that Uganda will not take part in the 1st round of the 2018 world cup qualifiers, the team’s head coach; Sredojevic ‘Micho’ Milutin couldn’t hide his excitement.
Am happy for Uganda’s position in Africa .We have an advantage to play against teams ranked below above 20th in Africa.
Uganda is ranked 19th in Africa and 73rd in the FIFA world rankings.
This gives the team an advantage to Uganda to start at the 2nd round with top teams in Africa like Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Tunisia, Senegal, Cameroon, Congo, Cape Verde, Egypt, Nigeria, Guinea, Congo, Mali, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, South Africa, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Rwanda, Togo , Morocco, Sudan, Angola, Mozambique, Benin and Libya.
The winners of the Second Round will move into the Third Round, where five groups of four teams will meet both home and away.
The winner of each group will qualify for Russia 2018.
The coach further added that Uganda now has an established group of players who are signing with big clubs like Emma Okwi who signed for Denish side SonderjyskE and Sula ‘Malouda ‘ Matovu who recently signed for South Afrcan Keiza Chiefs.
