46th Stanbic Uganda Cup:

Round of 16 Stage – Matches to be played between 10th – 15th March 2020

  • Kyetume Vs Maroons – Mighty Arena, Jinja
  • Kiboga Young Vs Proline – Mbale Municipal Stadium
  • Kataka Vs Free Stars – Mbale Municipal Stadium
  • Dove Vs KCCA – Katushabe Playground, Masindi
  • Tooro United Vs Kitara – St Paul’s Seminary Play-ground, Fort Portal
  • URA Vs Wakiso Giants – Arena of Visions, Ndejje University
  • SC Villa Vs Mbarara City – Mandela National Stadium, Namboole
  • Light SS Vs UPDF – Soroti

The round of 16 draw for the 46th edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup was successfully held on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Headquarters in Mengo, Kampala.

FUFA Competitions Director Hajjati Aisha Nalule was joined by the Stanbic Bank Head of Agency Banking Ronald Muganzi, former Uganda Cranes winger Obadiah Ssemakula and FUFA Events manager Leila Nankya.

Nalule further hinted on the competition rules at this stage.

“The yellow cards at this only serve in the Stanbic Uganda Cup competition. All clubs are encouraged to use green pitches at this level. The visiting team is entitled to 30 percent, FUFA has 20 percent and home team takes the lion’s share (50 percent)” Hajjati Aisha stated.

Ronald Muganzi, the Stanbic Bank Head of Agency Banking further expressed the bank’s commitment towards supporting the tournament.

Muganzi also reechoed the development of the Stanbic Uganda Cup tournament to the country’s football pool.

I am very happy to here on behalf of Stanbic Bank. We have keenly followed the Stanbic Uganda especially in the press through the Television, new media and newspapers. The tournament has generated a lot of interest. The minnows have done surprises. As a bank, we are proud to be part of the tournament which has enabled talent exposure and development of the economy.” Muganzi noted.

Retired Uganda Cranes player Obadiah Ssemakula, 62, was present to conduct the draw.

Ssemakula, winner of the tournament in 1971 hinted on the significance of the tournament that is played concurrently with the main Star Times Uganda Premier League.

The Stanbic Uganda Cup is a very great tournament. It has given chance to the players to get playing time that they would not get in the main league since our days. Players of today should also utilize this opportunity” Ssemakula remarked.

Meanwhile, FUFA officially launched the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drive that is attached to this tournament.

Speaking to the media at the launch, Leila Nankya, the FUFA Events manager called upon the general public to donate generously towards the drive.

“Since 2016, FUFA has attached a CSR cause to the Stanbic Uganda Cup where several items should be donated generously for the vulnerable group of people, Please respond to help us impact on the society through football.” Nankya stated.

In the draws proper Kyetume hosts Maroons at the Mighty Arena, Jinja. Kiboga Young will play Proline in Mbale Municipal Stadium.

Kataka will host Mukono based Free Stars at Mbale Municipal Stadium, Dove hosts KCCA – Katushabe Playground, Masindi and Tooro United will take on Kitara at St Paul’s Seminary Play-ground, Fort Portal.

Meanwhile, URA will entertain Wakiso Giants at  the Arena of Visions, Ndejje University as SC Villa will  play host to Mbarara City at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

In Soroti, it will be the battle of two StarTimes FUFA Big League when Light SS faces UPDF.
