31st May, 2016 Zimbabwe vs Uganda (International friendly)
4th June, 2016 Botswana vs Uganda (AFCON 2017 Qualifier)
Uganda Cranes technical and medical team will continue monitoring the physical fitness levels of three of its players Mike Azira, Denis Onyango and Moses Oloya summoned to the squad to face Botswana in the AFCON qualifier to be played on 4th June.
The trio was named in the 21 man squad by head coach Milutin Sredojevic last Wednesday.
The grueling demands of professional football come with many eventualities including injuries and players expected to keep fit for matches. Onyango at Mamelodi Sundowns and Oloya with Binh Duong picked up minor injuries last week and will be assessed for national duty.
Azira who has had a tough pile up of fixtures at Colorado Rapids traversing long distances over the United States in the US Major Soccer League is feeling the pinch and his current physical condition can’t allow him to give his best to the team.
He has communicated to FUFA and will now be replaced by Orlando Pirates midfielder Yassar Mugerwa.
‘Football needs honest and professional people. Azira follows in the footsteps of National team players like Tony Mawejje who honestly informed FUFA that he was not fit to play for the team when he was summoned for duty in 2014’.
Assessment and monitoring of physical fitness of the rest of the players summoned to squad will also continue under the watch full eye of the FUFA medical team.
Meanwhile Salim Jamal, Faruku Miya and Murushidi Juuko are already in the country while Emma Okwi and Kizito Luwagga will fly in tomorrow.
Team captain Geoffrey Massa arrives later today from South Africa
Uganda Cranes starts training on Tuesday at Acacia Mall with a gym session lined up for the players under the watchful eye of head coach Micho and his entire team.
