AFCON U17 Qualifiers: Uganda beats Djibouti to set up Semifinal clash with hosts Tanzania

Uganda U17 team has qualified for the semi finals of the CAF U17 Regional (CECAFA) Qualifiers after beating Djibouti 8-0 at the Azam Complex Chamazi Stadium in Tanzania on Wednesday afternoon.

Uganda will play Tanzania in the last four stage on Friday. The match will come barely two weeks before the senior teams of the two Nations clash in the AFCON 2019 Qualifier at Mandela National Stadium.

Iddi Abdul Wahid opened the scores in the 9th minute, Kisozi Seed High School forward Yiga Najib netted a hat-trick in 22nd, 46th & 65th  minutes.

Bright Stars FC Junior team Davis Ssekajja, SC Vipers midfielder Kakaire Thomas also got their names on the score sheet.

KCCA FC Soccer Academy player Ibrahim Juma had a brace-converting one of his goals from a penalty spot.

Uganda u17 Head coach Peter Onen had a few words after the match.

‘We are playing the hosts. It will be an interesting game. We have improved tactically since our loss to Ethiopia and we expect a vey good game. We know Tanzania has changed alot in terms of man power but my boys will be ready’ said Onen.

Djibout head coach Moussa Mara congratulated his counterpart Peter Onen for making it to the semis but noted that this was the first international engagement and believes his boys will get better in the future.

‘I just want to congratulate my colleague for his team’s qualification. This tournament was for our team to learn and I think we have to do our best to organise a championship for our boys since they have no clubs and competition to raise they level’ said Moussa Mara

In the other group B Match, Ethiopia triumphed 4-2 over Kenya at the National Stadium.

Uganda finishes second from Group B behind Ethiopia and is set to face the hosts Tanzania who lead group A in the semi finals on Friday while Ethiopia will entertain Rwanda who finished second from group A
