Uganda U17 National Team will seek to advance to the finals of this year’s Total Energies U17 Africa Cup of Nations but first, they will be subjected to qualifiers.
To win the coveted slot, one has to emerge Champions of the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers, a thing the Cubs have done in the previous two editions. Unfortunately the most recent (2021) was cancelled due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

In the draws conducted earlier this week, Uganda was placed in Group B alongside Rwanda, Burundi, Djibouti and Sudan.
The other group has hosts Ethiopia, South Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania and Eritrea.
Uganda will kick start the tournament against minnows Djibouti at the Abebe Bikila Stadium on 1st October 2022.

Three days later, the Cubs will then face Burundi on Matchday two.
Matchday games in Group B will take place on 7th October with Uganda facing Sudan.
Hamza Lutalo’s charges will complete group business on 13th October against neighbours Rwanda.
The semifinals will take place on 16th October while the final will come on 19th of the same month.

Coach Lutalo believes his charges have what it takes to extend the dominance in the region and secure the ultimate target of qualifying for the final tournament.

“Our target is to qualify for AFCON and that means we must be the best in the Qualifiers. We are not concerned about our opponents because the players have been prepared to face any opposition,” he started.
“All the teams our group are equally good but our focus is doing well in every game in order to reach our target.” Added Lutalo.
The team is currently in camp at the FUFA Technical Centre,Njeru where the final team shall be named before heading to Ethiopia.
