The long awaited 2017 Airtel FUFA Awards will take place on Friday, 1st December 2017 at Speke Resort, Munyonyo.
There is no doubt that for the past two years, the Airtel FUFA awards have had a great impact on the lives of the various winners and also motivated many to work harder.
For the third year running, the finest footballers in Uganda will be rewarded with the awards, cash and the MVP’s will drive home.
Here is a look at the male nominees for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) accolade.
Muzamiru Mutyaba (KCCA FC)
Muzamiru Mutyaba is a true definition of a contemporary attacking midfielder.
Calm on and off the ball, Mutyaba has enviable close ball control, quick thinking and a great passer of the ball.
To supplement the aforementioned attributes, he scores crucial odd goals as well.
The Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) gem helped KCCA to defend the Azam Uganda Premier league crown, scoring 6 and creating 8 goals.
On the national team, Mutyaba is best remembered for the brace against Rwanda at St.Mary’s stadium, Kitende during the first leg of the TOTAL CHAN Championship of African Nations (CHAN) final round qualifier as the Uganda Cranes triumphed 3-0 on the day.
He was part of the return leg in Nyamirambo as Uganda booked a final berth to the final tournament, progressing 3-2 on aggregate.
His immense contribution also witnessed KCCA win the FUFA Uganda Cup, thus clinching a club first domestic double in history of the 1963 founded club.
Mutyaba also helped KCCA FC reach the group stages of this year’s CAF Confederation Cup the first Ugandan club to attain the feat since change of format in 2004.
He was nominated in the category of the Uganda Premier League midfielder of the 2016/17 season.
Tadeo Lwanga (Vipers SC):
Currently at Vipers Sports Club, Tadeo Lwanga was instrumental at Sports Club Villa where he was skipper.
He scored two goals as the Jogoos came second in the Azam Uganda Premier League.
Given his outstanding displays for the club, he earned regular call ups to the Uganda Cranes in preparations for several competitions.
Geoffrey Sserunkuma (Buildcon, Zambia)
Geofrey Sserunkuma is another player with sublime calm personality traits.
The veteran forward turned back the clock as he scored an amazing total of 33 goals in all competitions last season at KCCA FC before switching allegiance to Zambia Premier League club, Buildcon FC (also home to Uganda Cranes defender Isaac Isinde).
With 21 goals to his personal account in the domestic league, Sserunkuma was top scorer.
Like Mutyaba, he won the league and FUFA Uganda Cup, becoming the Most Valuable Player of the season in the former competition.
In the knock out cup, he netted 6 goals with a graceful finish in the final against Paidha Black Angels.
On continental level, he scored 4 goals in the CAF Champions League and one in CAF Confederation Cup.
Earlier in the season, he scored the winner as KCCA FC edged Vipers SC to win the 2016 Super Cup.
On the national team, he was part of the historical Cranes team that played at the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon after 39 years of waiting.
Sserunkuma scored as Uganda edged Cape Verde 1-0 away in Praia to begin the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers on a bright note.
