In a joint pre-match Azam Uganda Premier League press conference held on Thursday morning at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, a number of club coaches and captains promised to exhibit the best ahead of the weekend fixtures lined up.
This was the first joint pre-match press conference organized by the FUFA Super league Limited.
Uganda Premier League (UPL) Chief Executive Officer, Bernard Bainamani urged the clubs to respect the pre and post match press conferences as a way of disseminating information to the public in a timely and orderly manner.
‘We shall be conducting similar pre-match press conferences ahead of the matches to be played. I urge the clubs to be cooperative in this cause‘ he urged.
Coaches freely interacted with the media personnel present hinting on the team news, injury updates and expected game plan ahead of their respective games at hand.
The coaches in attendance were; Charles Ayiekhoh Lukula (Soana FC.), Angelo Lonyesi (Police F.C), Abdu Samadu Musafiri (Sadolin Paints F.C), Wasswa Bbosa (Express F.C), Simon Kirumira (Maroons F.C), Sadiq Wassa (URA F.C) and Joseph Mutyaba (Lweza F.C).
They were accompanied by playing staff from the mentioned clubs. Sadolin Paints’ captain Peter Katumba, Lweza’s Ibrahim Kiyemba, Hamis Kitagenda (Soana) and Vincent Kayizzi (Express) were some of the players around.
The media, players and coaches for the first time shared a common positive – fully embracing the idea.
“Having pre-match press conferences is a very welcome idea by UPL. Please keep it up as we share a lot together and build the brand of football in Uganda” Police F.C assistant coach, Angelo Lonyesi remarked.
His comment was nodded in the affirmative by Vincent Kakoooza of the Red Pepper Publications.
‘This arrangement (pre-match press conference) will further help us plan for the matches ahead and as well guide players on how to interact with the media. We are all partners that need each other’ Kakooza reasoned.
There are 8 matches set for the match day 18.
