The Uganda Premier League (UPL) has warned clubs that they need to have total control of its fans and players before, during and after games.
Players and fans’ indiscipline has been a concern as captured in some referees’ reports with the most recent being the match between Soana FC and Sports Club Victoria University on 22nd September, 2015 at Kavumba stadium.
In a communication signed by the Chief Executive Officer of UPL Bainamani Bernard Bampaire, the match that was played in Kavumba between Soana and SCVU had two Soana FC players Dan Wagaluka and Kamadah Ssebagala sent of while a fan slapping a referee.
Part of the communication sent to Soana FC Chief Executive Officer reads;
‘This is to inform you that the referees’ match report for AUPL match No. 36 Soana vs SCVU played on 22.9.2015b at Kavumba indicates that two of your players Kamadah Ssebagala and Dan Wagaluka exhibited high levels of indiscipline during and after the match. Wagaluka threw and hit a referee with a ball and shown red card. Sebagala attacked and abused match officials immediately after the match and was also shown re card’.
The letter further has this part;
‘It was also reported that as the match officials walked back to the dressing room after the match, they were attacked by some Soana FC fans. Actually one of them slapped the assistant referee’
Accordingly Article 33(2) (a) and (d) of FUFA Competitions rules will be applied and thus;
- Soana FC fine 300,000/- for failure to control their players and fans. This fine must be paid before Soana’s next league match.
- The suspension of the two players has been extended by a game. This means the duo will miss the next three physically played games.
UPL Chief Executive Officer Bainamani told www.fufa.co.ug that;
‘Weshall continue to make use of the rules an regulations governing the beautiful game of football. The game must be played fairly and with a lot of respect from fans, players and officials’ said Bainamani.
