The 2015/16 Pepsi national beach soccer league got off to a resounding start at the Lido Beach Sand on Sunday.
There were six games played on the day of the originally scheduled seven.
Real Galaticals’ 4-5 loss to Kampala International University (KIU) fixture produced the most goals.
Ismail Kagingo scored two goals before Geofrey Akabwai, Isaac Esioke and Kyobe Sempa added the others for KIU.
The scorers for Real Galaticals were Abdul Karim Alviero, Saidi Latifi and Denis Sserukwaya with a brace.
Debutants, Miami Kops picked to a strong start of the season, winning 4-1 on the day over Buwanika Bulls.
Two braces from Denilson Kisakye and Akram Bbosa gave the Kops the victory.
Pascal Mugisha scored the lone goal for Buwanika Bulls.
Another new side to the beach soccer confines, Kampala All Stars lost 5-2 to Talented Beach soccer team.
Allan Kayiwa single handedly led the demolition of Kampala All Stars with the highest individual tally on the day – 4 goals.
Another Allan tag, Kasozi scored the other goal from Talented.
Moses Ssekasana and Allan Nsubuga got the consolational goals for Kampala All Stars Beach soccer team.
It was a no show for Uhuru Titans against Dalumba Internationals when the former failed to turn up with no convincing reason to the organizing team.
The other games saw YMCA loss 4-3 to the stormers, Nkumba Select winning by a similar scoreline over Kayunga Town Council before Mutesa Royal University overcame Kabalagala Rangers 2-1 in the lowest scoring match on the day.
Julius Rulinda and Paul Kazo scored for Mutesa as Hassan Kaggwa had the lone goal for the former winners, Kabalagala Rangers, returning to the national league after a season in the lower division.
Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA) chairman, Deo Mutabazi is enthusiastic the league has finally kicked off and promises the best;
We started the league on a strong foot. Teams have turned up and the matches have been played. We shall continue to improve the logistics to teams and a way of beefing up the league. I am impressed by the quality of the league status and the competition itself which is a strong basis for a firm and quality national team – The Uganda Sand Cranes.
The league takes a two week break before returning on the 6th September 2015.
