Bobby names CECAFA squad this Wednesday

Cranes Manager Bobby Williamson will name his Cranes squad in the Press conference this Wednesday.

Cranes head coach Roberts Williamson ‘Bobby’ will name his Cranes squad this Wednesday a head of the 2012 Cecafa-Tusker Cup to be held here in Kampala starting November 24-December 8.

The Scot tactician who has been working on the list for the last two weeks confirmed to www.fufa.com Tuesday evening that it was now ready for the public. The details will be given during the Federation weekly press conference at FUFA headquarters in Mengo Wednesday morning. The Uganda Cranes are the defending champions after winning the 12th title in Dar es Salaam last year. They defeated neighbors, Rwanda.  A total of ten member countries and one other guest team are expected to start jetting into the country on November 21. Somalia will however arrive earlier on November 9 to camp in Namboole given the political instability at home among other reasons.

Djibouti is the only member country ruled out of this year’s tournament and their slot is set to be occupied by Malawi, Zimbabwe or Cameroon. Djibouti did not confirm their participation on schedule and this is partly attributed on the FA Presidential elections slated for November 10. The World Football body (FIFA) has confirmed sending its official in Djibouti to oversee the electoral exercise.

A FIFA commissioner and CAF referees instructor Souleiman Hassan Waberi remains the sole candidate for the Djibouti presidential position. Waberi is also a member of the Cecafa Referees committee. In June this year the country’s football clubs suspended the former president and instead elected Deputy Secretary General Waberi as new president. FIFA however intervened and called for more orderly elections to be conducted in their presence this weekend.

Cecafa challenge Cup is funded by East African Breweries (EABL) through TUSKER, one of its favourite brands.
