Buikwe Red Stars have emerged this year’s Buganda Zone 1 mini league champions after beating Kabembe FC in a penalty shoot out after a goalless draw at Bishop Brown ground in Kayunga.
Red Stars were crowned champions by Buganda Region’s Boss, Andrew Kaweesa after a one week tournament with 16 teams from Mukono, Buikwe and Kayunga participating. Buikwe won through kicks from the spot 0-0(5-3).
“This time it’s not automatic that the champions are promoted to Buganda Region League because of the ‘many’ clubs namely, Young Simba, Synergy and Greater Masaka were demoted,” said Andrew Kaweesa. He added that it will also depend on who goes to Big League between Buganda’s Champion (Kiboga Young) and Kampala’s Katwe United.
Jackson Ssemugabi of Katosi Watford emerged top scorer with five goals and Buikwe’s goalkeeper Nathan Lule voted most Valuable player (MVP). This tournament was sponsered by Fred Ssebuufu’s City Sports House.
