Bukedi progress to 2019 FUFA DRUM semi-finals, Buganda dumped out

Buganda 2-4 Bukedi

Acholi 1-1 Tooro

Bukedi Province humbled defending champions of the FUFA Drum Buganda 4-2 during match day four of the quarter finals at Pece War Memorial Stadium on Tuesday.

Ibra Nsimbe, Fredison Gwoto, Benon Tahomera and second half substitute Isaac Kisujju were on target for Bukedi.

Enock Walusimbi and another second half substitute Paul Ssekulima replied for Buganda.

Nsimbe scored the opening goal after 10 minutes. The equalizer came five minutes later from Walusimbi off Steven Sande’s curling corner kick.

Bukedi captain Gwoto scored the third goal five minutes heading to the half way break, beating goalie Hannington Ssebwalunyo from an acute angle.

Three minutes upon restart, Tahomera, a defender at UPL club Kyetume struck a beautiful free-kick from 25 yards for the fourth goal.

Kisujju who had just been introduced made it 4-1 before Ssekulima, a Buganda substitute scored the defending champion’s second consolation goal in the 75th minute.

The match of the match was Bukedi goalkeeper Derrick Emukule.

The result meant that Bukedi joined Lango to the semi-finals of the championship that brings together 16 provinces of Uganda.

Sadly, Buganda, who are the reigning champions are eliminated out of the tournament even if they are yet to play their final game against Tooro on Thursday, 5th December 2019 at Akii Bua Stadium in Lira.

Bukedi will face hosts Acholi at the Pece War Stadium at the same time as the Buganda – Tooro game.

Meanwhile, the game between Acholi and Tooro ended in a one all draw. James Otim, a second half subsistute gave Acholi the lead that was canceled out by Joseph Ssemujju.

Otim was named man of the match, earning a plaque and cash worth Shs 100,000 which was handled over by the chairperson of The Drum Local Organizing Committee, Rogers Byamukama.

Match day five of the quarter finals continues on Wednesday, 4th December 2019 with two matches over the two venues.

In Lira, at the Akii Bua Stadium, Lango takes on West Nile whilst Busoga will face Bugisu in the Easter region derby that will be staged at Pece War Memorial Stadium, Gulu.

The FUFA Drum theme is “Celebrating our Ancestry”.
