CAF Champions League (1st Leg, 1st Round): Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 KCCA
Uganda’s representatives at the CAF Champions League, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) football club narrowly lost 2-1 in to the African reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns at the Luca Moripe Stadium on Friday evening.
Defender Soumahoro Bangaly and Ricardo dos Santos Nascimento (penalty) gave the home side the lead just after six minutes.
Mike Mutebi’s KCCA returned for the second half the better side, creating and quickly closing down the gaps.
Their display was rewarded when Geofrey Sserunkuma tapped home across from second half substitute, Derrick Nsibambi in the 68th minute.
Nsibambi had come on for central midfielder Isaac Kirabira before tennager Allan Okello was given a chance to play at the biggest stage of African club football when he came on for the away goal hero, Sserunkuma.
The return leg comes so fast in the next 7 days on the astro turf of the FIFA funded Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo in Kampala.
