CAF U-20 Tournament: Uganda Hippos to face South Sudan

The Uganda National Junior side of the U-20 players Hippos has been drawn to play South Sudan over two legs for a place in the 2nd round of the tournament.

Uganda will play host to its neighbors on weekend of 30th/31st March and 20th/21st and 22nd April, 2018.

A win for Uganda will see Matia Lule’s trained team take on Cameroon at the next stage for the 2019 championship to be held in Niger.

The Total U-20 Africa Cup of Nations is the main international youth football competition for CAF Member Associations, and is competed for by Under 20 year olds. It is held every two years with the top 4 teams qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

‘We know the quality of players South Sudan has in their team. It will not be a simple game as some people may want to assume. We started our preparations very early by taking the team to Zambia for the COSAFA tournament. We shall also have a camp soon for these youngsters’ said the Hippos coach Matia Lule.

Uganda will also host the first leg of the 2nd round on the weekend of 11th, 12th and 13th May with the return leg set for 18th, 19th and 20th May 2018. Zambia is the holder of the CAF U-20 cup.

The training programme will be released soon.
