CAF Young Referees’ Course

The Physical fitness test of partcipants under the ‘CAF Young Talent Referees course’ ended successfully on Saturday morning at Mandela National Stadium.
Close to 41 participants including 6 from Uganda were taken through the routine tests. All Ugandan referees passed with flying colours. Shamirah Nabadda, Nantabo Lydia, Dick Okello, William Oloya, Ronald Katenya and Issa Masembe are representing Uganda at the course.
The course is facilitated by CAF Instructors, An Yan Lim Kee Chong (Mauritius), Felix Tangawarima (Zimbabwe), Constance Catherine Adipo (Uganda), Cherifi Nasradine (Algeria), Pierre Alain Mounguengui (Gabon) and Eddy Maillet (Seychelles).
Opening cermeony held on Meanwhile on Friday afternoon the CAF Young Referees’ Course has officially got underway at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.
CAF Executive Committee Member and FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo, CAF Referees’ Committee Vice Chairman An Yan Lim Kee Chong, CAF Referees’ Committee members Pierre-Alain Mounguengui and Instructor Felix Tangawarima, FUFA CEO Edgar Watson and the Chairman Uganda Football Referees’ Association Ronnie Kalema attended the opening ceremony.

‘CAF decided to prepare such courses to improve on your skills. You should take advantage of attending this course with the best referees on the continent. Endeavor to put into practice what the instructors are training you’ aid CAF Referees’ CAF Referees’ Committee member Pierre-Alain Mounguengui .
However, FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo in his address, urged the young referees to promote fairness when officiating.
‘I’m very delighted to be here as the President of football in Uganda. We need to plan in whatever we are doing to take African Football to the next level. Refereeing is a key component in developing the game of football. The best players, the best coaches and the best teams can only be determined using the 17 Laws of football. We need to have the people to interpret, apply the laws correctly and fairly to all. I urge the young referees to promote fairness when officiating the game and let the best team win’ noted the FUFA President Magogo
Meanwhile, Kalema praised CAF for giving Uganda the opportunity to host the course and stated that it will enhance the development of the game in Uganda.
‘As a country we shall benefit from hosting such an event. It is the first of its kind here in Uganda. We have the highest number of participants in the course. It will help us to achieve our Vision of being the number one football Nation in Africa on and off the pitch’ said Uganda Football Referees Association Chairman Kalema.
On Friday Morning, the referees went through medical tests at Case Hospital.
