CECAFA 2017: We can’t afford to drop points again-Basena

CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup 2017

Group B: Uganda vs South Sudan on Friday 8th December, 2017 at Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega, Kenya.

Spirits are high in the Uganda Cranes camp with a day left to their second group B fixture against South Sudan in the CECAFA Senior challenge cup 2017 in Kenya.

Cranes kicked off their title defence on low note with a goalless draw against a resilient Burundi side at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Monday afternoon.

However the Cranes have since had a two day rest which coach Moses Basena feels is more than enough for his players to recover and re-energize before taking on neighbors South Sudan who were 3-0 losers against Ethiopia in the second fixture of the group.

Talking about the other opponents after watching Ethiopia take maximum points from South Sudan on Tuesday, Basena said that he is confident the Cranes can get maximum points from the remaining two fixtures and consequently qualify for the semifinals.

Time for serious drills as Head coach Moses Basena monitors his players

‘By failing to win our first match we invited pressure onto ourselves and that means we must win our remaining fixtures to be able to qualify to the next round and with due respect to our opponents we need maximum points from both games’ stated Basena

‘We are the defending champions and we cannot afford any more slip up because it will put us in a more dire state of regret. My players are not ready to be in that kind of situation.  In the game against Burundi we fielded all our strikers and that shows how much we needed goals and the win but the Burundians were strong defensively but we have worked on attack formations and execution in training and hope my strikers twill be more clinical in the next games.’ Basena added.

Prayer moment for the entire team after training

The Cranes will have their last training tomorrow evening at the Bukhungu Stadium.
