CECAFA 2017: Uganda Cranes 1-2 Zanzibar match report

CECAFA SENIOR CHALLENGE CUP 2017:

  • UGANDA CRANES 1-2 ZANZIBAR

Uganda Cranes bowed out of the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup championship in Kenya on Friday evening.

The CECAFA record winners (with 14 titles) lost in the semi finals to Zanzibar 2-1 at the Moi Sports Complex in Kisumu.

Derrick Nsibambi’s 28th minute had cancelled Abdul-Azizi Makame’s opener on 22 minutes before the Islanders restored their lead through Juma Mohammed Issa’s well struck kick from the penalty mark.

Uganda finished the game with 10 men following a sending off for substitute Joseph Nsubuga who had committed a professional foul.

Nsubuga had replaced defender Shafik Bakaki in the first half.

Uganda Cranes will now switch attention to the third place against Burundi as Kenya takes on Zanzibar in final.

The final will be held at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday, 17th December 2017.
