CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup defending Champions Kenya began their title defense with a vital 1-0 victory over rivals Tanzania in the second game of match day 2 at the StarTimes Stadium Lugogo in Kampala on Sunday.

Hassan Abdallah’s lone strike in the first half was enough to hand the Harambe Stars three points in Group B.

The Kilimanjaro Stars of Tanzania tried their way through the Kenyan defense in the second half but all efforts made failed to make a positive impact on the defense manned by veteran skipper Joash Onyango.

In the first game of the day, Sudan came from a goal down to level matters with 10-man Zanzibar who had earlier on got the lead from Makame Musa Hamis. Montasir Osman Yahya scored the equalizer for Sudan in the closing stages of the game.

Action resumes Monday afternoon with Eritrea playing against Burundi at 1:30pm while Somalia battles the hosts Uganda at 4:00pm
