CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship: Ruthless Ethiopia dispatch Zanzibar to set tone in group B

CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship 2022

Ethiopia 5-0 Zanzibar

Ethiopia made their intentions at this year’s CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship clear with a convincing win over Zanzibar.

In the game played on Thursday at FUFA Technical Centre, Ethiopia who were dominant right from onset won 5-0 to hit the ground running.

Captain Loza Abera orchestrated the damage on hapless Zanzibar bagging a brace while Daniel Kezele Kidist also netted twice. The other goal was scored by Aregash Kalsa Tadesse.

Ethiopia started like a house on fire and got an early lead, with Tadesse scoring in the second minute, beating the Zanzibar defence for pace to slot past the onrushing goalkeeper.

Zanzibar literally did not put a fight and Ethiopia were dominant almost in every aspect.

Zanzibar the that played against Ethiopia.

In the 27th minute, Abera doubled the lead for Ethiopia, rounding off goalkeeper Yassin Zuwena before firing into an empty net.

Even after recess, Zanzibar despite making changes failed to march Ethiopia who scored three more goals. Abera and Kidist (brace) scored the second half goals.

The win gave Ethiopia a perfect start and they are currently top of the log in group B.

Ethiopia will return to action on Saturday against Tanzania while Zanzibar will face South Sudan.
