CECAFA U20 Challenge Cup
Group C
South Sudan 3-0 Somalia
South Sudan booked a berth into the quarterfinals of the 2019 CECAFA U-20 Challenge Cup after registering a 3-0 win against Somalia at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Wednesday.
A goal apiece from captain Daniel Samuel Solongo, Jospeh Stephen Dhata and Makweth Akeen Wol ensured South Sudan picked maximum points to finish top in group C.
They garnered four points in two games but had a superior goal difference over second placed Burundi who also had the same points.
It should be noted that Burundi and South Sudan shared spoils in a three all draw and the former defeated Somalia 2-0.
This therefore means, South Sudan end the group stage with one more goal but both qualify for the quarterfinal stage.
The duo joins Eritrea, Sudan and Uganda from group A plus Tanzania and Kenya that have already sealed their slots.
The final slot is up for grabs between Zanzibar and Ethiopia who play Tanzania and Kenya respectively on Thursday.
Zanzibar have three points after defeating Ethiopia while the latter need at least to win against Kenya to stand any chance.
