Uganda U18 Women National Football Team had a good start to the CECAFA U18 Women’s Championship, edging Ethiopia in their first game.
In the game played on Tuesday at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam, Uganda knicked a hard fought 1-0 win.
The game was closely contested with either side having scoring opportunities.
However, it was second half substitute Allen Nassazi who tucked home the all important goal of the day.
The forward who plies her trade at Kawempe Muslim replaced Shamsa Najjuma in the 63rd minute and five minutes later, she was on target.
A long pass from goalkeeper Sharon Kaidu went past Ethiopian defenders and Nassazi made a perfect run to fire into the bottom right corner.
Despite Ethiopia stepping up efforts in the closing stages, Uganda proved resilient and held on to secure maximum points.
The win means Uganda end the first day of the Championship in second place behind hosts Tanzania who defeated Burundi 3-0 in the opening game.
Uganda will return to action on Friday against Zanzibar.
It should be noted that the Championship is played in a round robin format with five teams taking part namely Tanzania, Uganda, Zanzibar, Burundi and Ethiopia.
The team with most points at the end will emerge the Winners.
