The 2019 CECAFA U20 Challenge Cup comes to a climax on Saturday, 5th October at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
The day’s menu has two matches lined up. Sudan faces Eritrea in the early kick off at 1 PM to determine the third and fourth placed teams.
Sudan lost 1-0 to Tanzania in the semifinal match at the Pece War Stadium, Gulu.
Eritrea lost by a similar margin during the other semi-final clash to Tanzania at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
The final between Kenya and Tanzania will be repeat of the group stage encounter played earlier at Njeru which ended in a 2 all draw.
Therefore, the final game will be one to settle egos and it is expected to be physical and a cracker of sorts.
Here are the pre-match press conference quotes:
Mousa Mohamed (Head coach of Sudan)
We told the players to focus for the third place play-off match after falling out in the semi-final. We are focused to win this game. We are confident. This is a very important for us to get the bronze medals as consolation. It is a different game altogether. We need something out of it. This is not a group stage game. It is a play-off match. The concentration will be different. This is a tournament that has helped to scout young players to the national teams. There are new good boys. Being the head coach of the U15, U17 and U20 teams, we have got advantage to test the players under different systems and formations. There has been good physic and speed in the tournament
Stanley Okumbi – Kenya U20 Head Coach:
A great final is expected. Al the teams have been showcasing their abilities and we have used a lot of energy. We were the best teams right from the start and deserve to play in the final. They (Tanzania) have good players having scored 17 goals to this season, we are prepared for them nonetheless. Tomorrow is a final, we have good plans how to stop them. We have the discipline offensive and in defence. Three players need late check-ups after picking up knocks. CECAFA has done a good job to organize a good championship. Players are young and we are focused
Zuberi S. Katwila – Tanzania U20 Head Coach
From the group stages to the final, we faced tough challenges. We are set. We are now focused for tomorrow’s match against Kenya. Kenyans are our brothers and it will be friendly fire. The issue of traveling to Gulu and back to Njeru is behind us now, we are set. We are now focused for tomorrow’s match
