The FUFA 2nd Vice President Darius Mugoye who is the chairman Local Organising Committee of the CECAFA U20 Challenge Cup to be hosted by Uganda from 21st September to 5th October 2019 led a strong delegation to Northern Uganda for another round of inspection of facilities in Gulu- one of the host towns for the regional tourney.
The FUFA Deputy CEO in charge of Football Decolas Kiiza and Nicholas Musonye the Secretary General of CECAFA together with FUFA Cub Licensing Manager Ivan Kintu Bayige made the trip early today.
Pece Stadium in Gulu was zeroed on by the organisers with the help of the local leaders led by Gulu district chairman Martin Ojara Mapenduzi as the host venue.
Musonye and his team inspected the stadium, hotels and training grounds that are going to be used by the teams in the group that will play its games in the northern Uganda district.
The officials first went to Gulu district offices where they met and held a brief meeting with the district chairman who later led them to Pece stadium for a guided tour of the facilities as Musonye carefully observed and made recommendations to be worked on before action gets underway next week.
‘We have inspected the stadium’s field of play, training grounds and hotels. I am certain we have all that we need for the tournament to be played here. We have also identified areas that need to be worked on and be improved upon which we have told management to handle. They have promised and committed themselves to do that within the deadlines. We are confident they will keep their word. Otherwise Pece stadium and Gulu will host matches’ Musonye emphasized.
St. Joseph’s College Layibi and Gulu High school play grounds will be used as training grounds for the teams that will be based in Gulu.
‘I have been following the FUFA Drum tournament and I am impressed by the crowds that watch this competition. I have seen Gulu is one of those places with amazing crowds and only hope that the fans will come and watch the CECAFA U20 -Uganda 2019. I want to commend FUFA for choosing Gulu as one of the host cities and I am certain the football loving people of this beautiful place will enjoy the action the way they love the FUFA Drum’
Action gets underway next week on September 21st as teams start to arrive officially on the September 18th. However Djibouti is already in Kampala for acclimatization of the weather ahead of the tournament.
Relatedly there will be a press conference at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala at 10am on Saturday 14th September to be addressed by CECAFA Secretary General and Local Organising Committee Chairman in regard to the preparations of the tournament.
