CHAN 2024: Uganda Cranes Discover Full Group C Opponents

Co-hosts Uganda now know their complete list of Group C opponents for the upcoming TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, set to take place from 2nd to 30th August 2025 across Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

Following the conclusion of the final qualification round, Group C has officially been confirmed to include:
Uganda (Hosts)
Niger
Guinea
Algeria
South Africa

The final two teams to join the group Algeria and South Africa secured their spots in dramatic fashion over the weekend. Algeria sealed qualification with a commanding 3-0 second-leg win over The Gambia, following a goalless draw in the first leg. The North Africans return to the CHAN finals with a 3-0 aggregate victory, signalling their intent ahead of the tournament.

South Africa, on the other hand, showed resilience by overturning a 1-0 first-leg loss to Malawi. The Bafana Bafana won 2-0 in the return leg to advance 2-1 on aggregate and mark their return to CHAN with renewed ambition.

The addition of these two continental heavyweights makes Group C one of the most competitive pools of the tournament. Uganda will benefit from home support but face stiff competition from well-established sides like Guinea, Algeria, and South Africa.

This will be Uganda’s seventh appearance at the CHAN finals. The Cranes will be hoping to make history by advancing past the group stage for the first time, inspired by passionate home crowds and a deep connection to the local terrain.

The CHAN tournament exclusively features players active in their respective domestic leagues, offering a unique opportunity for emerging talent to shine on the continental stage.
