Morocco 3-1 Uganda
Zimbabwe 1-0 Burkina Faso
An improved performance for Uganda Cranes in their second successive appearance at the Africa Nations championship (CHAN) in South Africa couldn’t guarantee them a place in the quarterfinals.
Cranes topped Group B from day one after posting a win against Burkina Faso (2-1) and a goalless draw with Zimbabwe, but a 3-1 loss to Morocco in their final group fixture cost them a place in the last eight. The other match in the group between Burkina Faso and Zimbabwe ended 1-0 in favor of the latter.
Despite the team bowing out, Head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic who had his team train for just 21 days prior to the tournament put up an improved performance compared to the one of two years ago in Sudan when Cranes lost all their games and managed to score just one goal.
Vipers Striker Yunus Sentamu was on target again for this third goal of the tournament as he handed Uganda the leveler just before half time.
Morocco scored two second half goals to pick up maximum points and also advance to the quarterfinals. They have been joined by Zimbabwe.
