2017 COSAFA U-20 Youth Championship (Match Day 1 results):
Zambia 0-2 Uganda (Group A)
Mozambique 0-1 Egypt (Group B)
Swaziland 2-3 Malawi (Group A)
Uganda National U-20 team edged Zambia 2-0 in the second group A match of the 2017 Mopani Copper Mines COSAFA Under-20 Championships in Kitwe on Wednesday.
Team captain Muhammed Shaban scored a brace in the match.
Shaban got the first off Steven Mukwala’s assist from an acute angle after 52 minutes.
He then got the second on 56 minutes when goalkeeper Saidi Keni played a long ball that Shaban utilized to score the second.
Zambia came close to the opener when Captain Prince Mumba saw his shot cannon back off the woodwork, before Lameck Banda was denied by a fine stop from Uganda goalie Saidi Keni.
Mathias Lule, the head coach for Uganda called for all the changes.
Pius Obuya was the first substitution when his place was taken over by Allan Okello.
Frank Tumwesigye was replaced by Kagimu Shafik and Victor Matovu came in for Mustafa Kiiza who had earlier being booked.
Uganda is now top of group A with a better goal difference over Malawi who defeated Swaziland 3-2 in the opener.
North African guests Egypt got their tournament off to a winning start in a hard-fought 1-0 success over Mozambique.
Hussein Abdelkader grabbed the only goal of the game four minutes from time for what turned out to be a deserved victory for the Young Pharaohs.
The second match in Group B will be played on Thursday when South Africa take on Mauritius at the Nkana Stadium (kick-off: 15h00 local; 13h00 GMT).
