CSR: Express FC wins FUFA Cup of Hope in Luzira Upper Prison, Inmates receive football items

Express FC emerged winners of the FUFA Cup of Hope after edging KCCA FC 2-1 in the final of the tournament on Sunday at Luzira Upper Prison ground.

Bashir Kasibante who will walk to freedom in May after serving his sentence netted both goals for Express FC.  Captain Ogwang Samuel scored for KCCA FC.  The winners took home a Cup and  a new set of jersey. Ten teams took part in the tournament.

FUFA fulfills CSR promise to inmates of Luzira Uppper Prison 

It is exactly 371 days today as FUFA returned to Luzira Upper Prison to offer more hope to the inmates through football.  As one of the tools used to support and improve society by using the beautiful game, FUFA fulfilled the promise made on 12th March 2017 at the same place by delivering football items as part of the FUFA CSR activity for this year.

Items delivered included a computer, goalkeeping gloves, refereeing kits, two boks of the FIFA Laws of the Game and 20 balls.  FUFA also faciliated the three day Referees’ course condcuted by Samuel Egesa. The fresh referees handled the both matches played on the day.

Before the donataions were handed over, two matches were played in which the FUFA President’s XI fell to the Upper stars losing 6-4.

Upper Stars goals were scored by Ivan Odwari , Eddie Muhingo and Katerega Oscar with a brace each.

FUFA CEO Edgar Watson  got a brace, Hakim Magumba and Eng. Moses Magogo netted for the President’s XI.

FUFA President’s XI that fell to Upper stars

FUFA President’s XI made several changes as the games went on which saw goalie Sam Kawlaya come on for Sadiq Wassa in the first half, Phillip Ssozi replaced Fred Tamale, Ali Kitenda for Hassan Mubiru, Ali Kayongo for FUFA President.

While addressing the public, Luzira Upper Prison OC SSP Sentalo expressed his excitement having received officials from the football governing body (FUFA).

‘We don’t take your being here for granted, without your coming here all this excitement wouldn’t have been expressed. The joy amongst us here is because of your presence’ Sentalo noted.

Sentalo also applauded the inmates for putting up a spirited game and ensuring discipline is at maximum and later expressed his desire for a seasonal league instead of tournaments in the upper prison and highly praised the initiative of the capacity building amongst inmates.

‘The introduction of a referees’ course is a remarkable milestone in the upper prison and it’s going to change a lot in terms of football here’ added Sentalo.

FUFA President thanked inmates for loving the game of football and joining the whole world to make it the most popular and loved sport.

In his brief remarks before the donation also noted the fulfillment of a pledge made by the football governing body.
