The confederation of African Football Associations (CAF) has appointed a set of four Ugandan referees to officiate a crucial CAF Orange Club Champions league match between Al Merreikh of Sudan and DRC’s league giants TP Mazembe. Ali Kalyango, a no nonsense man will stand in the centre of the game to be played in Khartoum City.
He will be assisted by Hussein Bugembe and Ngobi Musa Balikoowa. Brian Nsubuga travels as a standby referee. The game will be played on the weekend of May 11-13.
Uganda Cranes young skilled player Mike Mutyaba features for Al Merreikh and is expected to play in this game.
In another development, FIFA has also appointed Ssemambo Aisha, Diana Mukasa, Nakitto Marex and Irene Namubiru to handle the FIFA U20 Women World Cup (3rd round) match between Nigeria and DRC. The game will be played between May 4-6.
Meanwhile a former Grade I referee and match assessor, Moses Wagambula has passed on. He reportedly succumbed to diabetes from Mbale Hospital and he will be laid to rest on Friday at Bulago village, Mbulamburi district, 30km from Mbale town.
