The chairman of the FUFA security and safety Committee Sam Lwere completed a three day FIFA/CAF seminar in Cairo, Egypt designed to help National federation security officers.
With African teams already taking part in various CAF Competitions and many more lined up next month, the world’s soccer governing body felt it important that the security officers are trained ahead of the matches.
Security at all stadiums an safety of fans are key components of any football event.
Lwere returned on Thursday last week from Cairo where he had been for the FIFA/CAF Regional Seminar for National security officers which started on 12th May and ended on 14th May, 2015.
On his return Lwere started putting into practice what he had learnt from Cairo as he was fully in charge of security matters during the FUFA Big League play offs and Finals last Saturday at the Philip Omondi stadium in Lugogo.
Lwere believes the seminar was of great value to the federation.
‘Now that I have acquired new, unique skills and knowledge, expect improved security measures at the games. I will share this information with other committee members for the success of events’ said Lwere.
FUFA will handle a marathon of local and international matches in the coming three months and Lwere says the seminar came at the right time.
‘We have matches in the Africa U-23 Championship, CHAN and AFCON qualifiers so we promise to use these techniques acquired from Cairo to the satisfaction of our stakeholders at the games’ added Lwere.
Uganda is one of CAF Member Associations to benefit from the seminar for National Security officers.
The Units that were handled during the seminar include FIFA Stadium and Security Regulations, Safety and Security Management, FIFA fair play and Integrity, Crowd Management, Fire, Terrorism as well as the FIFA Integrity Initiative.
The seminar was handled by FIFA security gurus, Deborah Doe (FIFA Security Consultant) and Patrick Beckles, (FIFA Security Officer).
Security Officers from fifty-two (52) Member Associations of CAF took part in the three day seminar.
