Uganda Kobs’ Captain Faruku Miya Scoops USPA May Best Sports Personality Accolade

Uganda Cranes, Kobs and Vipers midfielder, Faruku Miya is the best sports personality for the month of May as voted by the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA).

USPA voted Miya for the exceptional individual brilliance for club and country during the body’s weekly meeting held at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.

The sports journalists voted Miya as the best with a total of 540 votes, beating national 800M runner, Ronald Musagala who scored 535 points.

Musagala beat Julius Acon’s 800M record he set in 1997.

The rally crew of Arthur Blick Junior and navigator, Unissan Bakunda came third with 500 points for winning their second rally event of the year.

Why Miya Won:

The Vipers play maker played an integral role in Vipers’ winning of the 2014/15 Uganda Premier league.

He scored great goals against SC Villa and BUL during two of the last determinant games of the seasons.

Miya, the Uganda Kobs team captain scored two goals of the total four strikes that the team scored as Uganda eliminated Rwanda in the CAF U-23 championship qualifier.

Miya scored away together with Muzamiru Mutyaba and was on the score sheet again at Nakivubo Stadium alonsgide John Ssemazi as Uganda progressed 4-1 on aggregate.

Nominations and Secondments:

Footballer, Faruku Miya was nominated by Hamza ‘Africana’ Nsereko and seconded by Kawowo Sports’ Phillip Corry.

Miya will get his Nile Special branded plaque and the U.shs 500,000 next week during the monthly dinner for the sports journalists in Kampala.

Miya is part of the Uganda Cranes team that has on Monday kick started preparations for the Gambia International friendly match on 9th June 2015 as well as the Botswana and Tanzania games of the AFCON 2017 and CHAN 2016 qualifiers.

The Uganda Cranes team started to train at Kabira Country club in Kampala.
