The second cycle of the FIFA Women’s Football Campaign commenced today in Bukedea District hosted at Bukedea Comprehensive School playground.
The Campaign is introduced by FIFA to its Member Associations as an initiative to promote the game, create awareness and empower girls through football in a friendly and safe environment.
The project is identified to promote fair play, team work, hard work, competition and fun with the intention of inspiring young girls to dream big and reach their potentials on and off the pitch.
The targeted group are girls under the age of 13 (totaling to 240 girls) and also offers grassroot coaching education to games teachers from the 20 schools across the district.
Coach Educators from the participating schools underwent training today ahead of the football fetival

- Creating awareness of women football in the different parts of the country.
- Helping to raise awareness and willingness to play football in the region.
- Acting as a feeder to the FUFA Primary School Competitions and the Pan African Schools Championship.
Quotes
“I am delighted to have the programme in Bukedea and North East as a region. I remember way back, we were in West Nile Region and this is what I was yearning for. North East as a region has not been having this kind of programme. It is going to impact on the women football and more so the schools . In Teso, we only have Aterai representing in Odilo. We want to send more schools to represent in Odilo come this season. Schools that are here are capable. The schools invited here are Government aided.” – Agnes Mugena, FUFA Executive Committee Member
“I appreciate the organisers of this program. Twenty schools have been selected to come and participate in the activity of football. All the sixteen sub-counties have been represented and four other counties got an extra school. Tomorrow 1st March here in Bukedea Comprehensive School Stadium, it is going to be a fabulous day of showing talent by our young girls.” – Ojilong Richard – Inspector of Schools Bukedea District
“Today we are being trained on how we can impart skills, knowledge and to the girl child. And I know when we took this knowledge down to our learners, to our schools, the girl child will also be seen in high levels of education, in higher levels of participation, in higher levels of sociology. Because once you will find it that if a learner plays any game, is physically organised, is mentally upright, is on the side of health, you find it that the muscular ability of an individual to participate is also brought on board.” – Stephen Oluka, Coach Educator
“Most of our girls were left behind and when they cross to secondary is when they start learning the talent. But from the other day when we heard that we were going to have this programme tomorrow, when I told the girls they were really very excited, we took them to the field and they were showing their skills. So I believe tomorrow when we come here, with the knowledge that we have been given today by Mr. Jackson, he has taken us through what we are going to do with them, we are going to train them.
I’m very sure they are going to develop the talent. We’d like to thank FUFA, thank our District officials, thank our headteachers, thank everyone who has managed us to be here. We thank you for the facilitation and everything that we have got.” – Wenene Esther Rose, Coach Educator
