The FIFA Development officer in charge of Eastern and Southern Africa, Ashford Mamelodi has hailed the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) for the proper implementation of the Goal Project III.
Mamelodi was speaking shortly after an inspection of the Technical Centre constructed with the help of funds from the world soccer body at Njeru, about 80Kms east of Kampala, Uganda’s Capital City. “I am very happy with the progress at Njeru technical centre” said the FIFA boss. He made the remarks this Tuesday afternoon from the federation headquarters in Kampala in presence of the FA president Lawrence Mulindwa, the CEO Edgar Watson and the Technical Director Asuman Lubowa.
When completed, Mamelodi said, this will be one of the modern technical centres in the continent. “I had expected the contractors to complete this phase by the end of December but they are already over 90% done” said a visibly impressed FIFA development officer. He further disclosed that Uganda’s good performance had earned them a fourth Goal Project to the tune of US Dollars 400.000.
The technical centre has a modern hall that accommodates close to 200 people, two offices and the hostel for 45 people among other facilities. Ugandan FA president Lawrence Mulindwa said the contractors had faced some setbacks due to rains which slowed down the works. He hailed FIFA for considering Uganda for a fourth Goal Project and promised to ensure proper management of the funds allocated. Mulindwa however decried the bad conditions of the access road connecting the technical centre to the main road. He called upon the local authorities to consider working on it.
Currently, a perimeter wall is under construction, the main gate is being erected, the parking yard graded and the play ground for natural grass being leveled. The centre already has an artificial turf in place constructed under win in Africa- with- Africa project.
