Matchday 11 delivered a fitting close to the first round, with decisive moments at both ends of the table, narrow victories, and hard-fought contests highlighting a weekend that shaped the standings ahead of the second round.
Here is the full round-up of the weekend.
Latifah Nakasi Shines as Kawempe Muslim beat Rines to top first-round standings.
Latifah Nakasi’s brace inspired kawempe Muslim Ladies FC to a dominant 2-0 win over Rines SS WFC at Kabaka Kyabaggu to finish as league leaders at the half-mark point of the season.
The pre-match talk centered on how the warriors would react after suffering their first defeat of the season, and the answer came almost immediately. Latifah Nakasi struck inside the opening minute, finishing clinically to hand the warriors an early lead and set the tone of proceedings. With the early breakthrough, the warriors settled into early rhythm, dominating possession and dictating the pace of the game. Their movement and passing repeatedly troubled the opposition, despite enjoying long spells of possession, the visitors created few clear-cut chances with the hosts staying compact and limiting space in the final third. Relief finally arrived in the 90th minute when a well-taken free kick cleared the wall and beat the goalkeeper Bridget Nansamba, sealing the result and taking Latifah’s tally for the season to six goals. Notably, goalkeeper Adeke was handed a start ahead of Namwanje Saidat, marking her first appearance of the season, and she repaid the trust with a composed display to keep a well-earned clean sheet. The result ensured Kawempe Muslim Ladies ended the first-round at the summit of the table with 28 points, replicating the feat they achieved at the same stage last season.
Catherine Nagadya stars as Kampala Queens return to winning ways.
Kampala Queens FC sensationally ended their three-game winless run as they claimed an emphatic 3-0 victory over Lady Doves FC at MTN Stadium Lugogo. Thanks to Catherine Nagadya’s brace and Joanita Ainembabazi’s strike.
Lady Doves FC played themselves into early trouble with a risky high defensive line, an approach that played perfectly to the host’s strengths and allowed their quick wide forwards to repeatedly find space and stretch the believers defense.
This was evident in the 28th minute when Peace Muduwa latched onto a well-timed through ball, elegantly beat her marker and delivered a pinpoint cross that arriving Nagadya met with a firm header to cap off an eye-catching team goal.
Kampala Queens continued to look a more dangerous side with Peace Muduwa involved in flowing moves but the Queens missed many excellent chances before the break.
In the second half, the believers offered little resistance as the Queens maintained their dominance with progressive football. Joanita Ainembabazi doubled the lead in the 70th minute before Woman of the match Catherine Nagadya completed her brace in stoppage time to put the game to bed and extend her tally to nine goals this season.
Missed Chances cost St Noa in She Corporate’s slender victory
She Corporate FC wrapped up the first round of the league in second place after edging St Noa Girls-Zana 1-0 in a tightly contested affair at Mutesa II Stadium.
The sharks made a bright start, taking an early lead in the second minute through Maureen Nankinga who struck from distance to beat Lillian Nakirya, marking her first goal for the campaign. The hosts grew into the contest thereafter, crowding the midfield and dictating long spells of possession, an approach she Corporate struggled to contain. In truth, St Noa created a number of excellent opportunities in the final third but a solid goalkeeping performance ensured the visitors maintained their slim advantage heading into the break.
Upon restart, St Noa resumed with clear purpose, once again asserting control in midfield and keeping the sharks pinned in their own half for extended periods. Balyse will be much happier with Woman of the match Molly Naava, whose outstanding goalkeeping and a string of decisive saves kept St Noa at bay but the hosts will deeply regret not capitalizing on numerous chances in a contest where their dominant display and overall performance deserved a better return.
Elsewhere, Uganda Martyrs H/S WFC claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over She Maroons FC, with Brenda Munyana’s well-taken strike on the hour mark proving decisive. After a closely contested period, Woman of the Match Munyana broke the deadlock in the 60th minute with a composed finish that ultimately separated the two sides. The result marked Uganda Martyrs second straight victory, the first time they have managed back-to-back wins this campaign.
Meanwhile, at Makerere University Ground, the encounter between Makerere University WFC and Asubo Ladies FC was called off in the 67th minute after the visiting side were left with insufficient number of players to continue the match. Makerere University WFC was leading 3-0 at that time, and the matter will now be handled in accordance with the FUFA Competitions Rules.
In soroti, Olila H/S WFC and Amus College WFC played out a goalless draw at Olila Ground. The result capped a difficult first round for the hosts, who finished the opening half of the season winless while Amus college ended the round in fourth place. Aseun Hellen was named Woman of the match.
