Barely under 48 hours with the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) still mourning the demise of former Uganda Cranes hero, Manasi Owiny than another football icon passes on.
This evening FUFA received the sad news of the death of Sheikh Jamil Kakeeto who passed away at Mulago Hospital today.
Kakeeto was a celebrated figure in Ugandan football as he was one of the country’s best football administrators in talent identification and development.
Kakeeto who was team manager at KCC FC in 1997 played a key role in the development of former Uganda Cranes players like Ibra Sekagya, Baker Mbowa, Abubaker Tabula, Hamis Kitagenda, Mohammad Byansi, Mujib Kasule, Hussein Ssali and the late Wilson Ggayi.
The FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo was shocked by the news.
‘It is a very sad day in Ugandan football. It is very difficult to come to terms with the sad news as the country was still mourning the demise of Manasi Owiny-a former Uganda Cranes star who died on Monday night’
FUFA President further added in his condolence message ‘On behalf of the FUFA Executive, staff, members, sponsors and the entire football fraternity, we sympathise with the family of Sheikh Jamil Kakeeto’
