The last regional qualifiers of the 5th edition of the Airtel Rising Stars U-17 boys and girls football programme started with action for the Northern and West Nile region teams on Saturday, 12th September 2015 at Pece Stadium in the heart of Gulu Municipality.

There were over 15 matches played on the opening day with a massive passionate crowd – exemplifying the true addition and love for the football game in the two regions.

The quality of the game has been tip-top from both the girls and boys. The crowd is amazing and this is the true meaning of the ARS programme – taking the game to the local communities as we search and nurture the next local talents

Dr Patrick Benard Ogwel testifies to www.fufa.co.ug.

The star attraction thus far has been Gulu districts’ 15 year old St Mauritz football academy footballer, Oscar Komakech whose three goals in three matches have seen his team to two victories and book a berth in the finals against Destiny Sports

Komakech scored in Mauritz’s one all draw with Destiny before notching a brace in the 2-0 victory of St Mauritz over Sporting United.

The finals shall be played on Sunday, the same day for prize giving, speeches from FUFA, local leaders and the sponsors – Airtel Uganda.

The top 2 teams per gender are each given a brand new set of airtel branded jersey, with the winners taking gold medals and the runners taking silver.
