FUFA and Kampala Regional Football Association in partneship with Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) on Tuesday extended the FIFA flagship grassroots football development program, FIFA FOOTBALL FOR SCHOOLS across the city.
The event follows a national launch that was done in June 2024 at FUFA Technical Centre Njeru in presence high profile FIFA guests.
The event saw games teachers from 79 Government-aided Primary Schools under KCCA from all the 5 divisions of Kampala City undergo a one-day training seminar of football for schools’ philosophy which combine basic football with life skills for school going children aged 4-14. Additionally, each of the 79 schools was given 15 balls
The event was graced Jimmy Amatre, Deputy Director of Social Services at KCCA as well Willis Muwanguzi, Kampala Region Executive Committee member who represented the Chairman of Kampala Regional Football Association.
“I have also seen how hard Uganda has worked to make football more accessible for young people across the whole nation and I commend the federation for working with FIFA for the launch of football for school in the country earlier this year. Education is vitally important for any nation’s development especially when the country has one of the youngest populations in the world as Uganda does, FIFA football for schools will help with this mission using the power of football to teach important values to the young girls and boys and investing in Uganda’s future. And this programme combined with the many projects linked to FIFA Forward will help develop future national team players and contribute to the health of everyone touched by football in Ugandan society. I hope it will also play its role in making next generation of Uganda’s legends like those who reached the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in 1978 or more recently the Cranes that participated in 2017 and 2019 editions of the tournament. On the women side too, the future is bright as proven by the participation of the Crested cranes in the 2022 women’s Africa cup of nations.” He said.
FIFA Football for Schools was a highlight by FIFA President Gianni Infantino in his message to Ugandan football family as FUFA marked 100 years of existence in October.
The theory and practical sessions which also included Safeguarding of children in football was conducted by trainers from FUFA headed by Joan Namusisi, Phiona Nansubuga and Peter Emojong together with other Regional Trainers of trainers who recently attended the course in Njeru.
The next event shall be held in West Nile Region (Koboko and Arua) targeting 250 primary schools from Westnile Region.
