FUFA Big League: Match Day 1 (2nd October 2014)
Uganda’s second highest ranked football league, The FUFA Big league gets underway today at several stadia across the country.
Teams like in the previous seasons have been pooled in two groups; Elgon and Rwenzori.
Away in Mbale, Child’s Restoration Organization (CRO) hosts Jinja Municipal Council (JMC) in one of the Elgon group games on card.
This match will take place at the Mbale CRO stadium.
Another Elgon group fixture, will witness newly promoted Kasese New Villa play Kirinya Jinja S.S at the Nyamitanga stadium in Kasese district.
Masaka side, Synergy, one of the favorites in the Rwenzori group hosts Masindi based VCC at the Masaka Recreational stadium.
There are away visits for Baza Holdings (to Luweero against Ndejje University) while The Saints visit Kamuli district where they will play Namasagali football club at Namasagali college grounds.
Maroons football club entertains perennial contenders, Wandegeya at the Luzira prisons stadium in a highly billed encounter.
Promotion
The top ranked team in each will get automatic qualificationto the Uganda Premier League (UPL) with the first and second runners up teams in the groups heading to the play offs to determine the third entrant.
Last season, Rwenshama, Lweza and Sadolin were the promoted teams as Masaka LC, CRO and Proline got demoted from the top flight.
The FUFA Big league is run by the FUFA competitions department in partnership with Airtel Uganda, also the prime sponsor of the national team-The Uganda Cranes.
