FUFA DRUM 2019: Bugisu wins thrilling Eastern region derby over Busoga to qualify for semi-finals

Quarter finals – Match Day 5 Results

Thursday, 5th December:

  • Acholi Vs Bukedi – Pece War Memorial Stadium, Gulu (4 PM)
  • Buganda Vs Tooro – Akii Bua Stadium, Lira (4 PM)

Bugisu became the third province to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2019 FUFA Drum tournament following a well worked out 4-3 victory over rivals Busoga in a thrilling derby played at the Pece War Memorial Stadium, Gulu on Wednesday.

Two goals by Steven Makumba, Mbarara City’s Raymond Onyai, and a penalty by Sports Club Villa striker Ronald Magwali gave Bugisu the deserved win.

Bakali Magunda and a brace from Richard Wandyaka (including a penalty) found Busoga’s three goals on the evening full of action.

Bugisu’s Makumba made it three goals in the competition following his match winner against West Nile on Monday at the new Akii Bua Stadium, Lira.

Makumba was also man of the match, earning Shs 100,000 on the spot and a plaque.

With two wins, Bugisu now has six points and qualifies alongside Lango to the semi-finals.

Away at the new Akii Bua Stadium in Lira, hosts Lango lost their first game in the new format of the quarters falling to West Nile.

Maroon’s striking duo of Fred Amaku and Rashid Agau as well as Onduparaka’s Vitalis Tabu scored for West Nile.

Sports Club Villa’s Fahad Badiro netted the consolation for Lango.

Meanwhile, the FUFA Drum quarter-final matches will climax on Thursday with two matches in Gulu and Lira.

Already eliminated Buganda take on Tooro at the Akii Bua stadium in Lira as hosts Acholi need a point to qualify for the semi-finals when they entertain already qualified Bukedi.
