Buganda Province secured a hard fought 1-0 win over Lango Province in the opening match of 2nd edition-The FUFA Drum Group A match at the Bishops SS play-ground in Mukono on Saturday evening. The match witnessed a huge crowd from both sets of fans.
Buganda Kingdom Prince Chrispine Kiweewa Junju was the Chief Guest as he was accompanied by his sister Princess Katrina Sangalyambogo.
The FUFA Drum Cup holders got the lead in the early stages of the game through striker Viane Sekajugo in the 6th minute. Sekajugo also netted the last goal of the FUFA Drum last season.
Sekajugo had a chance to double the lead only after 2 minutes but his effort towards an empty goal flew over the bar.
In the 20thminute Lango created an opportunity at goal when striker Wanock Petit’s tap-in from Joachim Ojera’s cross was saved by Buganda goalkeeper Joel Mutakubya who played in the absence of Nicholas Sebwato who is serving a two match ban slapped on him by the FUFA Competitions Disciplinary panel.
However, the resultant corner failed to make an impact on Buganda’ goal.
In the second Half, Buganda goalkeeper Mutakubya pulled off two saves in a space of two minutes and denied Lango an equaliser in the 65th and 67th minutes after a looping ball from Herbert Achai was on target before Wannock connected a dangerous header off a corner.
Buganda Province striker Bashir Mutanda missed a rebound from goalkeeper Franco Oringa in the 81st minutes but the ball went inches wide.
Changes:
Lango tactician David Obua made an early substitution at the start of the second half when he brought on Egang Walter for Obua Emmanuel.
Dread locked Broson Nsubuga replaced Dickens Okwirr in the 56th minute before towering striker Wanock paved way for Okulu Ronnie.
Buganda’s head coach Alex Isabirye made only two changes. Allan Kayiwa was replaced by Denis Lubowa while Mutanda came on for Robert Sentongo.

‘We missed some players who are injured but we worked as a team to have the win today. We have experience in the tournament. This win is a motivation for us.’

Buganda goalkeeper Joel Mutakubya was named Man of the Match. He received a beautiful FUFA Plague and a cash prize of 100,000/- presented to him by the Chief Guest Prince Jjunju.
