Busoga 1-2 Teso
Bugisu 3-0 Sebei
Teso Province defied odds to stern Busoga as the two teams faced off in the first leg of the round of 16.
In a closely contested encounter played at Ssaza Ground, Iganga, Teso fought hard to win 2-1 and thus take advantage in the tie.
Ben Ocen who was named man of the match opened the scoring in the 10th minute capitalizing on a defence lapse by Busoga.
Ivan Oyam’s initial effort hit the woodwork and goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga punched the ball into Ocen’s path who did no mistake to fire home.
Busoga found the equalizer in the 66th minute through midfielder Jerome Kirya who slotted the ball past onrushing goalkeeper Tom Ikara.
With ten minutes left on the clock, Teso regained their lead thanks to a superb finish from Eyam.
The two teams will face off in the return leg on 20th August at Emokori Ground in Bukedea district.
The winner on aggregate will then proceed to the group stage.
In the other game played on Sunday, Bugisu made light work of neighbours Sebei, winning 3-0 at Mbale Stadium.
Usama Arafat netted a brace while the other goal was scored by Steven Makumba.
