The highly anticipated FUFA Drum Tournament is set to resume its preliminary stage action on the weekend of February 22nd-23rd. This year’s tournament promises to be an exhilarating celebration of Uganda’s rich cultural diversity through football, with six thrilling matches lined up.
Since its inception, the FUFA Drum has grown in stature, providing a platform for teams from different provinces to showcase their talent while proudly representing their cultural heritage.
The tournament’s theme, ‘Celebrating Our Ancestry’ is a testament to its commitment to promoting unity and celebrating Uganda’s diverse cultural identity.
The upcoming qualification round will see six provinces vie for a spot in the next stage, joining the already-qualified eight provinces: Teso, Busoga, Buganda, Lango, West Nile, Kigezi, Tooro and Acholi.
On February 22nd, Bunyoro Province will face off against Rwenzori Province at Kigaya Primary School in Hoima, while Kampala Province hosts Bukedi Province at Yes Center in Nsambya, Kampala.
The action will continue on February 23rd, as Ankole Province takes on Sebei Province at Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara.
The match between Karamoja and Bugisu will be played when the preliminary stage gets to the 2nd leg action.
The Chairman of the FUFA Drum organising committee Rogers Byamukama, highlighted the tournament’s significance in fostering unity and promoting local football talent during a press conference held at FUFA House in Mengo.
Byamukama also assured fans of enhanced television media coverage, promising to showcase the unique cultural heritage of each province.
‘We look forward to improving the football played on the pitch and going beyond the 90 minutes for football to the expansive coverage on FUFA Tv. We shall showcase the culture, vibrant moments, and uniqueness of all provinces. The FUFA Drum is a festival of culture and identity, bringing communities together through their shared passion for the beautiful game;’ stated Byamukama.

Reigning holders Lango Province, who secured last year’s title after defeating Busoga Province in the final at MTN Omondi Stadium Lugogo, are determined to defend their crown and reaffirm their dominance in the prestigious tournament.

The FUFA Drum has witnessed four winners since its inception in 2018, with Buganda claiming the maiden edition in Arua, followed by Acholi and West Nile, before Lango’s triumph last year.
Nile Special, MTN Uganda and Nivana are the proud sponsors of the tournament.

Other FUFA Drum committee members in attendance at the press conference included Lajani Livingstone (Vice Chairman), Hajati Aisha Nalule and Tony Tumwesigye.
