The FUFA Drum: Goals galore on Match day 6 as teams book Quarterfinal places

The FUFA Drum 2018 (Match Day Six Results):

Group A:

  • Busoga 4-0 Sebei

Man of the match: Hamis Tibita (Busoga)

  • Teso 0-0 Bugisu in Katakwi (Abandoned in 75th minute, awaiting match referee’s report)

Group B:

  • Lango 2-0 Kigezi

*Man of the Match: Bronson Sserumira Nsubuga (Lango)

  • Buganda 1-0 Acholi – Bishop S.S, Mukono

*Man of the Match: Felix Okot (Acholi)

Group C:

  • Bukedi 2-0 Rwenzori

*Man of the Match: David Owori (Bukedi)

  • Bunyoro 1-0 Kampala

*Man of the Match: Jamal Kiyimba (Bunyoro, Goalkeeper)

Group D:

  • Karamoja 0-0 Tooro

*Man of the Match: Rajab Kajoba (Karamoja, Goalkeeper)

  • Ankole 3-2 West Nile

*Man of the match: Paul Mucureezi (Ankole)

The group stage level of the inaugural FUFA Drum competition had 7 out of 8 matches played to completion while one match in Katakwi between Teso and Bugisu was abandoned when fans entered the pitch with teh score at 0-0 in the 75th minute. 

There were smiles and definitely tears at most venues as the Provinces fought for the remaining slots to the knock out stage.

In group A, Busoga qualified as the top placed team with 13 points. Busoga climaxed in clinical fashion winning 4-0 against visiting Sebei at the Kyabazinga Stadium, Bugembe in Jinja.

Kirinya-Jinja S.S’ Anthony Mayanja, opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. Richard Wandyaka of BUL F.C doubled the scores seven minutes to the half time break. Hamis Tibita scored the other two goals in the 55th and 82nd minutes to complete the rout.

Tibita was named man of the match for his wonderful display, a reward that also comes with Shs. 100,000/ from FUFA.

The match between Teso and Bugisu prematurely aborted in the 75th minute due to crowd trouble in Katakwi.

The organizing committee therefore will make a ruling after studying the match referee’s report. It aborted at 0-0. Uganda Cranes stars Goalkeeper Denis Onyango and Emma Okwi played in attack for Teso. 

Buganda edged visiting Acholi 1-0 in group B at the Mukono Bishops play ground.

Onduparaka FC goalkeeper Nicholas Sebwato scored the lone goal on the day, a well converted penalty.

Lango’s Dickens Okwir in action against Kigezi

At the Uganda Technical College in Lira, Lango defeated Kigezi 2-0. Ivan Oree and KCCA FC yungster Allan Okello scored for Lango. Bronson Sserumira Nsubuga of Lango was named Man of the match. Both Lango and Kigezi fialed qualify to the knock out stage.

In group C, Bukedi smiled to a 2-0 home win at the Pallisa Hospital play ground. David Owori and Jackson Komakech were o target for Bukedi.

Bunyoro overcame Kampala 1-0 in Masindi. Jackson Komakech’s 76th minute goal won the game as Kampala suffered their second successive loss of the competition. Goalkkeeper Jamal Kiyimba of Bunyoro was named Man of the Match.

Karamoja and Tooro settled for a goal-less draw in a group D encounter played at the Boma play ground in Moroto.

Karamoja goalkeeper Rajab Kajoba was the best player on the day after making numerous saves including a penalty kick.

In a five goal thriller, Ankole recovered from two goals down to to see off  West Nile 3-2 at the Kyamate play ground in Ntungamo district.

Alfred Leku of Express FC and Fred Amaku of K-Jinja SS had scored for West Nile in the 12th and 21st minutes respectively. KCCA FC player Paul Mucureezi grabbed a brace in the 49th and 79th minutes with Lameck Ebong getting the other goal for the home in 10 minutes into the second half.

Mucureezi was named man of the match as he received the award from his father Rev Canon Jonathan Bwanahoro. 

‘I dedicate this award to my father. I wish him a happy Fathers’ Day. It was a perfect present for him’ said Mucureezi after the match.

The tournament is sponsored by Uganda Tourism Board (Match Day 5 and 6) played under the theme ‘Celebrating Our Ancestry’

The Quarter-final matches to be played on home and away basis are set for the weekend of 30th June and 1st July 2018.
