FUFA Drum: Goals galore, passionate crowds usher in successful match day one

THE FUFA DRUM TOURNAMENT 2018:

Saturday, 24th February 2018 (Official Opening Match):
  • Busoga 3-0 Bugisu

  • Teso 8-0 Sebei

  • Karamoja 1-1 West Nile
Goals: Alfred Leku (West Nile), Majid Ayop (Karamoja)
  • Bunyoro 2-2 Rwenzori
Goals: Yubu Bogere, Al Hadji Salim (Rwenzori), George Senkaaba  (2 for Bunyoro)
  • Lango 0-2 Acholi
Goals: Deogratius Ojok
  • Ankole 2-1 Tooro
Goals: Swalik Segujja, Yusuf Abato (Ankole), Innocent Asiimwe  (Tooro)
  • Buganda 0-1 Kigezi
Goal: Derrick Mudali
  • Bukedi 0-1 Kampala
Goal: Dan ‘Muzeyi’ Sserunkuma

The 2018 FUFA Drum tournament officially kicked off with a terrifying noise across the country with eight matches.
A total of 24 goals were recorded on match day one with six out right victories and two draws.
The official opening game witnessed Busoga humble Bugisu 3-0 at the Kyabazinga stadium in Bugembe, Jinja, a match that was graced by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga.
Hamis Tibita, Richard Wandyaka and Joel Madondo were on the mark for Busoga.

On Sunday, seven more games were played. Teso registered the biggest victory, winning 8-0 against Sebei.
A brace apiece from Musa Esenu , Benson Ocen and Daniel Isiagi were added by goals from Ivan Eyam and John Kokas Opejo.
West Nile and Karamoja shared the spoils one all at the Booma play ground in Moroto.

Alfred Leku of Express FC scored for West Nile and Majid Ayop who plays for Vipers Kotido FC replied for Karamoja to send the home fans into wild celebrations.

At the Boma play ground in Hoima, Bunyoro was held by visiting Rwenzori to a two all stalemate.
Yubu Bogere of SC Villa Jogoo and Al Hadji Salim of Mbarara city FC were on the mark for Rwenzori while another Villa player George Senkaaba got a brace for Bunyoro.

Deogratius Ojok scored two goals in Acholi’s 2-0 win against Lango in the much awaited derby played in Lira.
At the Kakyeeka stadium in Mbarara, home side Ankole out muscled Tooro 2-1.
Swalik Segujja of Mbarara City FC and Nyamityobora’s Yusuf Abato scored two quick first half goals for Ankole.
Bright Stars’ defender Innocent Asiimwe  headed home the consolation for Tooro after a great corner taken by Nicholas Kagaba of Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club.

Kigezi shocked Buganda with a Derrick Mudali late goal at the Masaka Recreational Stadium.
Mudali is a student at Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi.
Vipers Sports Club striker Daniel ‘Muzeyi’ Sserunkuma was the hero for Kampala Province with a late strike in their 1-0 victory against Bukedi.
Sserunkuma was introduced in the second half of the game.

There are 16 Provinces that are engaged in this tournament  whose total prize money is Shs. 100M.
The theme of the tournament is ‘Celebrating Our Ancestry‘.
