The FUFA Drum: Provinces battle for points as the second Round gets underway

Lango Province midfielder Allan Okello in Action against Ankole

The most prestigious football tournament for provinces ‘The FUFA Drum’ returns this weekend with eight matches on card in various parts of the country on Saturday 15th June and Sunday 16th June.

The highly anticipated game is the derby between Acholi Province and West Nile Province in Pece Stadium in Gulu on Sunday.

Both provinces have something in common regarding the cultural norms since they all originated from the two brothers Gipir and Labongo.

There is a very huge rivalry between the two provinces of who is superior to the other regarding football.

Acholi convincingly defeated West Nile 2-0 in the first round group game away at the Green Light Stadium in Arua.

However, the awaited clash is expected to attract the highest number of fans in the history of the competition since the West Nile province is looking forward to revenge and bring back the glory as their grandfather Gipir bravely captured the royal spear and revenged his brother Labongo before both fragmented into rival tribes of the Luo.

Kiweewa Emmanuel will be in charge of the match as the center referee assisted by Mulindwa Hakim and Kimayo Stephen.

Similarly, Bugisu and Bukedi meeting is another traditionally projected rival game as both provinces share most of the cultural norms and geographically living in the same region.

Bugisu managed to pull off a point in a 1-1 draw during the first round game in Butalejja that was highlighted by Akadodi dance by Bugisu fans all over the pitch.

Center Referee Byarugaba Henry will handle the match at Mbale SS ground. Atugonza Robson and Kachope David will assist him.

Equally, Rwenzori province and Tooro Province match is another encounter that is surrounded by the traditional rivalry between the Tooro tribe and the Bamba and Bakonjo tribes from Rwenzori province.

The battle of who is the soccer giant of the region is on the mouth peak of every football fan. The match will be hosted at Nyakasanga Ground in Kasese on Saturday.

Both provinces shared spoil in the first round game by 1-1 at St. Paul Seminary Ground in Fort Portal.

Kalibbala John Bosco is the center referee while Kazoora Emmy and Noor Hassan are his assistants.

In the other matches, winless Kampala Province will host Busoga province at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo, Kampala on Saturday. Busoga won the first round game 2-1 in Kamuli.

Nasser Muhammed is the center referee. Lusambya Solomon and Kimbugwe Robert are the 1st and 2nd assistants respectively.

In Kapchorwa, Sebei Province is hosting Lango Province at the Kiproitich Stadium. The visitors won first round game 6-1 in Lira.

Ochom Joseph will handle the match as the center referee. Omunyira Mathias and Oriada Hakim are the assistants.

Meanwhile, defending champions Buganda Province is hosted by Ankole province in Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara on Sunday.

Buganda lost the first round game 1-0 at home in Mityana.

Mudanda Ronald will be the center referee of the match. Mwesigwa Ronald and Muyaga Khalid will serve as the assistants.

On the same day, North Eastern Uganda province Karamoja eagerly waiting for their first win in the competition this season as they host Bunyoro province at Abim play Ground.

Both provinces settled for a 1-1 draw in the first round game in Hoima.

Omara Paul (center) Olobo Joseph (1 assistant) and Komakech Robert will be the referees for the game.

In Kabale, Kigezi province host Teso province at the Municipal Stadium on Sunday. Teso won 2-1 in their group D match in Bukedea.

Yoceal Nickson is the center referee. Okudra Emmanuel and Kumakech Abuhureir will serve as the 1st and 2nd assistants.
