The FUFA Drum: Quarter Final Slots Confirmed, 27 Goals Netted on Match Day 6

Teams in the Quarterfinals  of the FUFA Drum 2019: Cup holders Buganda, 2018 runners Up West Nile, Lango, Acholi, Busoga, Bukedi, Bugisu and Tooro.

  • Acholi 4:2 Bunyoro
  • Bugisu 3:0 Teso
  • West Nile 3:0 Karamoja
  • Bukedi 2:2 Kigezi

 

Ahead of the quarter-finals stage of the 2019 edition of the FUFA Drum, a total of 27 goals were netted on match Day 6 as teams booked their slots in the round of 8.

In group A, Kampala province suffered a 2 -0 loss as they were beaten by Tooro at Lugogo. Keziron Kizito and Ashraf Mandela both scored in the second half of the game to give Tooro the  victory to even maintain their lead on the log with 10 points, after scoring 9 and conceding 5 goals in 6 matches.

In the other group A match, Busoga thumped halpless Rwenzori 3-0 in Kamuli to secure their slot in the quarter-final. David Bagoole, Patrick Gonahasa and Jimmy Kulaba registered their names on the score sheet to secure the win for the home side.

Busoga settled for  second place on 9 points .

In Group B, FUFA Drum Cup Holders Buganda collected maximum points off Sebei in a six goal thriller . Buganda won 4-2 in Luweero.

Reigning MVP of the FUFA Drum Viane Ssekajugo scored twice, Ssekulima Paul and Baker Buyala got a goal each for Buganda.  Ayeko Johas and Chemoges Tomex netted for Sebei. Buganda managed to collect 15 points in six matches. Sebei never won any match.

The other group B match between Ankole and Lango ended in a goalless draw. Lango came into this match win need of a point off Ankole to confirm their slot in quarters. Both Lango and Ankole tied on 10 points but the two sides were separated by goal difference.

Group C and D matches were all played on the second day of match day 6 which saw Acholi, Bugisu and West Nile collect maximum points while Bukedi sharing spoils with Kigezi in Butaleja.

In group C, Acholi beat Bunyoro 4-2 at Pece stadium in Gulu to claim maximum points. Acholi took a 2-0 lead trough Tito Okello’s first-half goals but later leveled by Bunyoro through Kamanye Ronald and EnjamaRichard on return for the second half.

Moses Okot who plays for Bright Stars FC in the top flight league was later introduced to separate the two sides with a brace on the day.

Tito Okello was named man of the match in a highly attended soccer match with a number of dignitaries gracing the clash.

West Nile was ruthless on Karamoja when they netted three times without reply in Arua.

Ade Brian, Amaku Fred and Bida Ezra scored for the hosts. Bida was named man of the match.

Acholi and West Nile progress to the quarter-finals with 15 and 10 points respectively.

Group D,  witnessed a titanic clash between Bugisu and Teso in Mbale. Bugisu won 3-0.

Last edition’s top scorer James Alitho, Edgar Bwogi and Magwali Ronald were on target for Bugisu.

Bukedi were held to a two-all draw by Kigezi in Butaleja at Boma ground.

Iddi Babu and Isaac Kisujju scored for Bukedi while Micheal Birungi and Rukanga Clifford for KIgezi.

Both Bukedi and Bugisu progress to the Quarterfinals with 12 and 11 points respectively.

The FUFA  Drum Organising Committee will announce the format and venue next week of the next phase of the tournament.
