With a fortnight to the long awaited draws of the AFCON 2015 Campaign, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has officially launched the campaign dubbed ‘Road to Morocco 2015’.
The campaign has been launched at FUFA House in Mengo today at the same time, the Federation rebranded as it ushered in the new logo.
‘We are well aware, the draws will take place on 27th April 2014 and we expect the first game between May 16th and 18th 2014. We can’t wait until then to plan for the campaign’ remarked Mujib Kasule- Head of FUFA technical in charge of the National senior team.
FUFA CEO Edgar Watson revealed to the press that the main draws will be held in Cairo, Egypt on April 27th at the CAF Headquarters, 14.30hrs East Africa Time.
‘At the moment we do not know whether we shall play home or away and who will host the first leg .The match dates for the encounters will be between May 16th – 18th May (first leg) and May 30th – June 1st,” Watson clarified.
Incase Cranes qualify to the next round, they will be drawn for the 3rd preliminary round where 14 teams will be drawn into seven pairs to play each other on a home and away knock out basis which games will be played between July 18th – 20th (First leg) and August 1st – 3rd (second leg).
The seven winners of the ties will then join the 21 teams seeded in the seven groups with matches set to be played on Fridays, Saturdays and Wednesdays.
The first and second from the seven groups will automatically qualify for the finals in Morocco joined by the third best in all groups and hosts Morocco to make the 16 teams.
The FUFA Super league which was earlier scheduled to climax on 16th May 2014 has been thus brought forward and will end on Tuesday, 6th May 2014.
‘We want to give ample time to the national team players to prepare adequately’ added Mujib added.
