Defending Champions Eastern FC edged Northern region 2-1 to storm this year’s finals of the FUFA-MTN inter regional competitions being played here in Hoima.
Earlier in the day, Buganda had also dumped West Nile on the same margin to qualify for the finals after four years of a relatively poor show in this tournament. Buganda took an early lead through Kivumbi Faisal in the 7th minute and stretched the margin to 2 in the 28th minute through Mwanje Samuel. West Nile’s lone goal was scored by team captain Savia Anzuvuku 5 minutes to break.
Eastern had their goals coming through Odongo Mathew and Shabena Daniel while Northern had their consolation netted by Captain Tapi Edward. The Easterners will however play today’s finals without their leading striker Shabena Daniel who was sent off pitch yesterday for reiteration.
FUFA President Lawrence Mulindwa is expected to officially preside over the closing ceremony at the Municipal ground. A total of UGX 9,000,000 has been put aside as cash prizes for the winners. The champions will walk away with UGX 4,000,000 and the first runners up takes UGX 2,500,000.
The 3rd best team has UGX. 1,500,000 and UGX. 1,000,000 for the 4th placed team. FUFA wishes to commend MTN for this continued partnership that has seen our administration reach out to different parts of the country to tap talents.
