FUFA President kicks off countrywide football tours in Kampala Region

The leadership of football clubs in Kampala Region has interacted with the FUFA Executive led by President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim on day one of the Countrywide tour that kicked off today in Lubaga and Makindye.

The FUFA President led the interactions during the meetings that had invitations extended to Kampala Regional Football Association executive members, Lubaga and Makindye District Football Association (DFA) Executive members, National delegates, representatives from each club in the men’s and women’s 3rd division Leagues plus 4th division league. The FUFA President was accompanied by Executive Committee Members Rogers Mulindwa, Sam Mpiima and FUFA Chief Executive Officer
Edgar Watson. Selected Secretariat staff were also on the tour today.

The meetings were held at Jevine Hotel for the Lubaga District Football Association and later at Landstar Hotel that hosted Makindye District Football Association.

The engagement sessions involved sharing ideas, taking note of the challenges faced by clubs at grassroots level and explaining ongoing and future programmes of FUFA.

The FUFA President acknowledged that football faces many challenges at the grassroots but took time to appreciate the work done by the foot soldiers of the game at the grassroots level.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the time and resources invested in keeping football alive at the grassroots. I know we have challenges with infrastructure but FUFA is engaging Government on this matter and there has been positive progress FUFA and Government have a good working relationship.

Our main objective is to have as many footballs as possible for people to play everywhere. We need about 50,000 balls but we shall manage with what is available going forward.

The Kampala Region FA Chairman Dirisa Kasalirwe welcomed the FUFA Executive’s decision to come on ground and meet the leaders.

It is a great opportunity for the FUFA Executive to hear all concerns about lower league football in Kampala. We are certain that what is discussed today will be debated on at various levels in the top leadership of football

The Chairman of Lubaga District Football Association Ssekyanzi Umar who welcomed the FUFA President to the area noted that the region has many challenges but they are working hard to keep the game going.

We have people who love the game and our main aim is to extended service delivery to all without fear or favour.

The club football leaders raised issues ranging from difficulty in registration of players, limited finances, football politics, playgrounds and geographical demarcations to allow neighbouring clubs to join leagues that are within their proximity.

The clubs further requested FUFA to provide support in the areas of legal, marketing and communications in a bid to grow their brands.

FUFA President and his Executive later handed over Zakayo footballs to the club representatives in the men and women’s regional leagues and the 4th division league.
